Real Driving Emissions

Monitoring real emissions from vehicles with combustion engines

Emissions from vehicles powered by fossil fuels have traditionally been tested in laboratories, but the results rarely reflect reality. Therefore, rules regarding "Real Driving Emissions" (RDE) have been added. The emissions are then measured correctly in a real environment and during real driving. OPSIS offers an RDE monitoring system based on the well-proven DOAS technology.

SIMPLE AND SAFE TO USE

The OPSIS RDE monitoring system is a safe system as no exhaust gas is led into the vehicle. The system is mounted with a measurement cell on the outside back of the vehicle and the rest of the monitoring equipment inside the vehicle. The system monitors emissions in real time during normal driving. The monitoring result is available immediately after the test drive.

After quality assurance, the relative emissions can be calculated and compared with target values and established limits, and of course also with results from WLTP driving (WLTP = Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) or similar test cycles in laboratory environment.

A VERSATILE AND COMPLETE RDE SYSTEM

The OPSIS RDE monitoring system is flexible and can monitor vehicle emissions from all types of fossil fuels. The system monitors the emissions of all gaseous pollutants of importance. The system is equipped with exhaust gas flow meters and GPS to document the driving and make it possible to calculate the emissions per kilometer.

RDE MONITORING WITH OPSIS

There are multiple reasons for choosing OPSIS as supplier of systems for gas analysis. Among the key benefits of the methods and solutions offered by OPSIS are:

  • one monitoring system for all gases
  • direct monitoring of NO, NO2, NH3, CO, CO2, and THC
  • fast response time
  • low energy consumption
  • gas calibration only once a year.
